St. Louis Crossword Puzzle Tournament #2, Carpenter Library
March 4, 2023

Shannon’s first tourney puz being solved!

48 people competed for fame and glory (ok, just some old GAMES magazines) and the winners were:

2nd–Phil Christofferson with 4085 points
Tied for 1st– Derek Allen and Zach Nahlik with 4105 points

Congrats to them and thanks to all who participated!

The live tournament may be over, but you can still enjoy the puzzles from the comfort of your own printer. Simply click

to purchase a PDF of all 3 tournament crosswords to be solved and/or scored at your leisure. They’re only $4.99, and if you want them sent somewhere other than your Paypal address, that’s fine just let me know.

There’s also a metapuzzle included with your purchase, but it involved a lot of playing games in the room. Hm…let’s see…if you want to try it, I’ll invite you to make an account on Board Game Arena (it’s free) and you can play me to earn the clues you’ll need. The games played on the day were Coconuts, Ubongo, and Set, and a devilish jigsaw puzzle of playing cards provided a clue, as well (FOTLSLFEUWY).

St. Louis Crossword Puzzle Tournament, June 18, 2022, Carpenter Library

Almost 50 people competed for fame and glory (ok, just some of my puzzle books). The winners were 5th–Alex Zurich (sp?) with 4040 points; 4th–Bryan Clair with 4115 points; 3rd–Dan Schwartz with 4125 points; 2nd–Will Eisenberg with 4190 points; 1st–Joel Johnson with 4195 points. Congrats to them and thanks to all who participated!

I sang “When You Wish Upon a Star” and there was a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle. For the fully immersive experience, you can sing to the same karaoke track here or get yourself a copy of the jigsaw here.

The live tournament may be over, but you can still enjoy the puzzles from the comfort of your own printer. Simply click the button below to purchase a PDF of all 3 tournament crosswords (plus a final challenge) to be solved and/or scored at your leisure. They’re only $4.99, and if you want them sent somewhere other than your Paypal address, that’s fine just let me know.

To recreate tourney conditions you should solve puz 2 in the dark (really), using only the light from your phone flashlight. Once you discover your companion’s name you can turn the lights back on and finish as normal.

There’s also a metapuzzle included with your purchase, but you’ve got to supply your own scissors and aha moments for that.
